First and foremost, sourdough bread is delicious! Sourdough bread has numerous other benefits. It is easier to digest because it acts as a prebiotic. The fiber in the bread helps feed the “good” bacteria in your intestines. It is also lower in gluten than other forms of bread. Some people with gluten intolerance may find it easier on their stomachs!

The Sourdough Starter
The sourdough starter is a live fermented culture of fresh flour and water. Once combined, the culture will begin to ferment and cultivate the natural yeasts in its environment. This is what makes the bread rise! When added to cakes or other pasties it helps prevent the gluten formation resulting in a cake with tenderness above and beyond your standard recipe. Further, the acid from the sourdough will enhance the flavors in your recipe!
To keep your starter alive you have to feed it twice a day! I feed mine with
- 50g bread flour
- 50g water
It is like having a fun little pet! I will gladly give away starter so you can start your own sourdough concoctions – just bring a mason jar!
